The common thread running through this programme composed of violin sonatas by Heinrich Franz Biber, Heinrich Schmelzer... is the constant presence of an ostinato, which is overlaid by a virtuoso solo part that is highly expressive and often exuberant. This basso continuo, which repeats itself as the variations unfold, offers a wide range of possibilities for creativity.
