Les Fables de Jean de La Fontaine enjoyed great popularity from their publication. Louis-Nicolas Clérambault, one of the major composers of the baroque area, was the first musician to set the Fables to music.
The composer makes us hear a music full of charm, between air of court and popular song, of a melodic simplicity filled with freshness. " La Cigale et la fourmi" is transformed here for example into "La fourmi et la Sauterelle". The chamber atmosphere of the music is a perfect setting to revel in the text and taste the subtle charm of the salons of Louis XV. Mirroring these fables, sometimes declaimed by an actor, sometimes sung, will be presented various course tunes and instrumental tunes, whose picturesque and bucolic universe, by turns laughing and delicate, will form the backdrop of these inexhaustible texts.
